Valentine's Day ... still in the hotel siege!

Well, here we are - tomorrow we begin week #3 in the hotel. Lots has happened - not the least of which is this - MUBARAK resigned! It was a very tedious few days/weeks - but the man is gone, his vice prez is gone, the military are in control and some things are back to "normal."

But WE are still here. I am feeling very confident that until the schools are back in session, it will not be safe for all the expats to return. I just watched a very scary broadcast on CNN (or BBC - not sure which). A news team were going into the other parts of Egypt to try and film some return to normal life shots. Time and again, they were shooed away - the people were told not to talk to them, etc. The news reporter said it was because of the long time fear of state television - which has instilled a fear and almost hatred of foreigners. She then looked into the camera and said "we've got to leave - it is getting dangerous." This is NOT something I want to hear!

Friday, Glen took the day off and we had lunch in Patras at the Noodle Bar - one of our favorites - with Marsha. Then we ran some errands, came to the hotel for naps, did Shabbat, went to the gym and then drove into a nearby village for some delicious pizza! A long but fun filled day.

Saturday, we drove up to Kalavryta to say goodbye to one of our favorite mountain locales. We had a delicious lunch in a taverna we've been to lots of times, bought some galaktoboureko (a custard pudding) for the staff at the hotel, then drove up to the ski resort to look around. It was breathtaking!

Sunday, we drove into Athens for church. We were treated to a wonderful surprise message by a visiting pastor from Pennsylvania. Then we went to Plaka for lunch with our music leader and her family, Pastor Rick and his family, the visiting pastor, Carolyn and Ebi and Eliot. WHAT FUN! Long drive home - but we arrived in the daylight hours - and dinner - then we came to our room and collapsed!

We're planning to visit a restaurant tonight that Ellie recommended to us. I can't TELL YOU how much I'd love to be cooking a Valentine's dinner for us - instead of going out. But if I can't cook it in the tea kettle or coffee pot, it can't be done at this time.

Enjoy your loved ones this day ..... oh and DON'T STOP PRAYING!
